First Dates

Aka the ones that didn't make it to #2

We were 17. I didn't know we were on a date. We did work together at Starbucks near my place, and then you wanted to send me home after. On Monday, you told me you liked me. I didn't like you back. We became friends some time later, and then suddenly you joined the rest in making fun of me. I always thought you were really smart. The last I heard, you'd started going to church.

You were the first person I met from Tinder. When I got to Victoria I took your hand and shook it. You laughed and asked me why I was being so formal. We watched Billy Elliot, and then you held me through the night. The next morning you told me to stay a little longer and suddenly I felt sick. We were both lonely, but I wanted to be lonely alone.

You were painfully forgettable, and you will probably never see this. I still don't get why some people have a thing for white men.

If you weren't so goddamn awful at taking no for an answer we might actually have gone out again.

5.

You are, to date, the most handsome man I have ever gone out with. It's the only reason why I forgave you when you said you didn't like seafood on pizza. You were always busy with work, always somewhere else. Eventually I got sick of seeing Instastories of your hotel room while you left my texts on read.

6.

You arrived in a linen suit. I thought it was charming, you said I was underdressed. After dinner by the river (you paid), we had ice-cream (I paid). You were cool until we talked about Chinese privilege. "Is it really a thing?" you said. I ghosted a few days later.

7.

We had a smoke in school once. It was nice, but I had to stop pretending I wasn't still in love with someone else.
